Our Treatment Philosophy

At Gladstones Clinic, we understand that the work we do has immeasurable value for our clients. As such, we’ve dedicated ourselves to bringing them the absolute best in medical- and evidence-based treatment options for the range of addictions and behaviours we treat. The best one-line description of our overall treatment philosophy would be abstinence-based, integrative, and holistic addiction rehabilitation.

We’ve worked for over 20 years to combine the most up-to-date research and addiction treatment methodologies into the Gladstones process. These include medical and psychiatric therapies, modern counselling techniques, and proven alternative therapies such as meditation, yoga, and reflexology.

Any and all types of addiction are incredibly multifaceted and complex. Our behaviours stem from a wide range of experiences, brain-chemistries, and environmental influences; and as such, we do not subscribe to a one-size-fits-all treatment model. Our trained multi-disciplinary team works to uncover the root cause of each patient’s addiction before developing and prescribing personalised treatment strategies, focusing on the ‘disconnection treatment model’ as opposed to the ‘chemical hook model’. Focusing on the root cause of the addiction allows for more targeted, individualised therapy models which typically include Cognitive and Dialectical Behavioural Therapies (CBT & DBT Therapy), group and one-on-one counselling, and transactional analysis.

Private Residential Detox and Rehab

We offer our clients an alternative to treatment in a multipurpose medical facility. Our residential treatment offers comfort and calm that other types of facilities can’t match. In addition to our clinics being much more stress-free and restful than a multipurpose medical facility and more secure than going through self-rehab at home, we also have trained rehabilitation specialists offering support, compassion, and understanding 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This high level of personalised care and treatment is one of the factors that makes our private residential detox and rehab programmes stand out when it comes to long-term success.

Gladstones Clinic specialises in small-group primary care for drug and alcohol rehabilitation in a medically supervised residential setting. The detox process is often painful and traumatic, and going through it under the guidance of trained and experienced addiction specialists able to provide medical intervention can be a godsend. Additionally, by only treating a small number of patients at a time, you can focus on your recovery without the additional stress and burden of constantly running into new faces.

With many of our staff having previously undergone addiction treatment, and subsequently moving into even senior positions at Gladstones, you can be assured that you’ll be treated with kindness and compassion by staff who have firsthand experience with the challenges of overcoming addiction.

Aftercare and Relapse Prevention

Aftercare and relapse prevention is a critically important step in the recovery process. It’s important to note that one isn’t simply ‘healed’ of addiction once you walk out of the front door after a few weeks, but that the journey to full recovery and independence is likely to take months or even years.

Gladstones Clinic fully understands and appreciates this, and we proudly offer our former clients lifelong access to our aftercare and relapse prevention initiatives. We welcome back any and all former clients each Sunday in any capacity, whether you’re feeling vulnerable and would like support and affirmation, wish to share your story or good news with others,  or are simply looking for an understanding ear. Once you’re part of the Gladstones family, you’re in for life. Clients who can’t make it to the clinic are also welcome to join our weekly online meetings, where you’re guaranteed to meet a host of understanding and compassionate individuals to whom you can relate, and share advice, motivation, and hope.

Among others, this commitment to our clients’ long-term well-being and successful rehabilitation is one of the many factors that contribute to our success story.

Support for Families

When a family member is in crisis, the whole family feels the pain. When family members of someone who struggles with addiction feel neglected, isolated, –or in the worst case scenario, betrayed– restoring trust and love can be a challenge.

Gladstones Clinic offers a range of services that help families that have suffered from addictive behaviours come together and start healing.

Family Counselling

If someone in the family is struggling with addiction, we believe that it’s best if the whole family is part of the healing process. Families who participate in our Family Workshops and Wellness Programmes have the opportunity to learn more about how addiction works, how they can better interact with their loved ones, and how to discover new coping mechanisms for themselves and our patients. Having families come together to heal as a unit can dramatically improve the chances of making successful long-term changes that benefit the family unit as a whole, and reduce the chances of later relapse.

Specialists Intervention Services

When drug and alcohol abuse reaches a certain threshold, an intervention might be necessary to help someone in crisis recognise the harm they are causing themself and the ones they love. Unfortunately, there’s a lot that can go wrong in an intervention, and this could cause further feelings of resentment and hesitancy to seek professional help.

Gladstones Clinic offers specialist intervention services to help plan and execute a successful intervention. Our experienced addiction specialists have seen all of the pitfalls that the inexperienced might fall into, and can help turn your best intentions into a success story with the person accepting the helping hand.

When it comes to interventions, the stakes are high and the outcome can make all the difference. We urge you to think carefully about seeking professional help if you’re planning an intervention, as it could be the start of a life without a chronic, progressive, and potentially fatal illness.

If you’re considering an intervention and need expert assistance, don’t hesitate to reach out to Gladstones today at 0808 258 2350. Our team is highly trained and experienced in this area, and we’re here to help you every step of the way.

Private Rooms & Fully Catered: More about our facilities

While experience, methodology, and understanding of the root causes of addiction are all tools at the addiction rehabilitation experts’ disposal, they’re not all that matter. Rehab, and especially the detox process, can be a difficult, painful, and uncomfortable experience, and going through this process in a relaxing, supportive, and stress-free environment can make it all the easier.

Our residential care facilities are well-equipped to make your stay as comfortable and productive as possible. You can expect a fully-furnished room with a light and airy feel, a clean and well-kept house where you’ll be spending your time, and a small handful of other clients. We steer away from large groups, as constantly running into new faces hinders rather than supports recovery.

For the first few weeks of primary treatment, it’s important that all our clients stay within the facility (visiting the garden  is ok), but after a few weeks, we take occasional trips to nearby parks or other recreational areas to stretch our legs and get some sun and fresh air. Your family and supportive friends are welcome to visit on Sundays.

At Gladstones, we recognise that optimal nutrition is another important factor in addiction recovery. Nutritional deficiencies could lead to cravings and other negative psychological effects, so our experienced in-house chefs ensure that our clients always have an abundance of delicious and nutritious food available. We provide home-cooked breakfast, lunch, and dinner in addition to fruit, snacks, and other refreshments throughout the day. Over the years, our chefs have catered to clients from all backgrounds and cultures, meaning that they’ve picked up more than just a few culinary tricks. They’re experts in preparing a wide range of cuisines and catering to nearly all dietary restrictions.
