Anxiety is a normal human response when a person is faced with a stressful situation. It can cause you to experience a range of physical and psychological symptoms. Psychological reactions can include insomnia, feeling irritable, inability to concentrate, a fear you are going mad, and feeling out of control of your actions. Physical reactions you may experience include dry mouth, diarrhea, heart palpitations, nausea, sweating, shaking, tightness in your chest and needing to urinate more than usual. Your tendency to experience anxiety varies depending on your personal resilience, biochemistry and genetic predisposition.
Mild anxiety can be beneficial if you are someone who works better under pressure. However, when your anxiety persists long after the situation is resolved, is out of proportion to the given situation, or is so severe it interferes with your ability to get through everyday activities, it becomes an Anxiety Disorder and you may require professional help.
