Am I drinking too much?

Drinkaware is an UK organisation which aim to change the UK’s drinking habits for the better. Their website is full of useful tips and insights to help men and women in the UK change the they use alcohol.

At Glandstones we know that some people may not need our help and won’t be an alcoholic or addicted to alcohol, but will have problems with drinking. That might be drinking too much at home or because you are putting on weight. Whatever the reason Drinkaware provides a useful starting place of people understand if they are drinking too much and need to look at their relationship with alcohol.

The UK Chief Medical Officers’ low risk drinking guidelines advise it is safest not to drink more than 14 units a week on a regular basis.

One of the best ways to understand more about your drinking is by using the Drinkaware Self-Assessment Test tool which is free to use on line. Drinkaware say “Many people don’t always know how much alcohol they drink and whether their drinking could have any impact on their health”.

“Our alcohol self-assessment can help you identify if the amount you drink could be putting your health at serious risk. We use a tool developed by the World Health Organisation (WHO), called ‘AUDIT’, that is used internationally by medical professionals to check for alcohol harm, including dependence”.

You can take the test by visiting the Self-Assessment Test tool.

Based on the results you may discover you have dependency on alcohol and may need to get help with your drinking. There are steps you can take to help break and reset your alcohol tolerance but for some you may need professional support to help your drinking, especially if alcohol is dominating your life – this is where Gladstones Clinic can help.
